This $1000 scholarship is open to Columbian students who maintain a 2.5 GPA and have participated in an organized sport during freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years.  Candidates should also demonstrate characteristics that Cole exemplified throughout his life:  his fun-loving sense of humor, loyalty, high values, and devotion to friends and family.

Students with a 3.7 GPA or higher are automatically considered for this scholarship and need only to submit their high school transcript to Owens Community College after January 1st.  These students do not need to submit an application for this scholarship.
 
Students with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.69 may apply for this scholarship by requesting a nomination from someone who can attest to the student's motivation, exceptional work record, public/community service (including military service), academic performance, other demonstrated leadership, or other expereince as related to a career path.  These students must submit an application form, which includes a nomination form to be completed by the nominator.

In order for a senior to be eligible, he or she must graduate from TC, Calvert, or a Seneca Co. High School, be a resident of Seneca Co., and be enrolled or accepted into an accredited Ohio college or university.  The student must exhibit financial need and be a person who represents in character the same devotion to family, school, and community that Charles D. Hering Jr. exemplified in his life.
